The Stationery Project has been working since 2018 to use waste paper for creative bookbinding for the community; working as a circular economy project, undergraduate and graduate students have joined faculty and staff to design and produce editions of notebooks, pads and stationery of all kind for the use of community members.

The Riso printers in the COMD lab helped inspire the project as they generate high numbers of test prints and there are photocopiers and laser printers all around the campus that inevitably produce drafts and discarded printouts. The project uses a systems design approach to recoup this to produce useful items for the entire community.  Our long-term plan is to develop a series of flexible production formats that will help to more routinely recoup off-print paper and other campus waste.

The Stationery Project promotes experimentation with bookbinding materials and techniques as well as innovative approaches in the design of our production and distribution systems. We are pleased to have collaborated with external and ECU partners including Student Services, members of faculty to develop classroom resources, and external artist-run gallery commissions.
