Practicing Neighbourly Responsibility

This remarkable volume documents a class in which students were asked to engage in determining the learning space collectively, disrupting hierarchical and exploitative structures and foreground neighbourly responsibility and reciprocity. The publication celebrates the actions and relationships the participants (students, teachers, guests, community collaborators, and neighbours) formed during this course, and acts as a prompt for future pedagogy and collaborations.

The publication is available as a limited run print-edition specially assembled using deadstock and other materials from The Stationery Project, with Riso-printed inserts. The digital publication is free to download and reflects this original print format.

Practicing Neighbourly Responsibility is a publication that documents an undergraduate course in Social Practice and Community Engagement offered in the summer of 2021 at Emily Carr. This volume, envisaged as the first of a trio, reflects a course-based engagement with Place-Based Responsibility, turning to surrounding communities and ecology on unceded territory.
